The Guest Chang Moi Boutique Hotel

The Guest Chang Moi Boutique Hotel is a small 3-star property in the lively Chang Moi quarter, the old trading district that runs east from Chiang Mai's moat towards the Ping River. It sits just outside the Old City walls, an easy 8-minute walk from Tha Pae Gate, which makes it a practical base for couples, solo travellers and small families who want temples, markets and street food within reach on foot.

The rooms are compact and well kept, each one air-conditioned with a private bathroom, a flat-screen TV with streaming, a tea and coffee maker, a fridge and free Wi-Fi. Most look out over the city and several open onto a balcony, so the choice comes down to whether you prefer a king-size bed or two singles, and a standard or a slightly more finished Deluxe finish.

For a property of this size the line-up is generous: an on-site restaurant serving a varied breakfast, free private parking, a fitness centre, a 24-hour front desk and a tour desk. Massage, cooking classes and an airport shuttle round out a stay built around comfort and a genuinely central location.

The hotel's rooms

The Guest Chang Moi Boutique Hotel keeps things simple with four room types, all 20 m² and built for two guests, so the real choice is about bed layout and finish rather than size. Couples tend to go for the double rooms with their king-size bed, while friends or colleagues travelling together will find the twin rooms, with two single beds, a better fit.

Every room shares the same core: air conditioning, a private bathroom with a shower, a flat-screen TV with cable and streaming, a tea and coffee maker, a fridge and free Wi-Fi, plus a city view. The two standard rooms come with a balcony to step out onto, while the Deluxe Double and Deluxe Twin trade the balcony for a more polished interior. It is a compact, no-fuss range that suits short city breaks where you spend your days out exploring.

Location and what to see

The Guest Chang Moi Boutique Hotel sits on Chang Moi Kao Road, in the Chang Moi quarter — the historic commercial strip that runs east from Chiang Mai's moat towards the Ping River. It's one of the handiest places to base yourself: you're just outside the Old City walls, with Tha Pae Gate about a 5-minute walk away, yet also close to the riverside markets and the city's small Chinatown. Guests rate the location 9.1.

Tha Pae Gate is the eastern entrance to the square, moated Old City founded in 1296 as the Lanna capital, and the launch point for the famous Sunday Walking Street, the big pedestrian market that fills Ratchadamnoen Road every Sunday evening with handicrafts and street food. From there it's a short, flat walk on to the Three Kings Monument and the City Arts & Cultural Centre, and a few minutes more to landmark temples such as Wat Chedi Luang and, at the far end of Ratchadamnoen Road, Wat Phra Singh.

Head the other way and within roughly 10–15 minutes on foot you reach Warorot Market and the Night Bazaar on Chang Klan Road, two of the best spots in town for an evening browse and a cheap dinner. Getting around is easy: most of the centre is walkable, and for anything further you can flag down a songthaew — the shared red pick-up taxis — or use a ride-hailing app.

The best months to visit are November to February, when the weather is cool and the skies are clear; late November usually brings the spectacular Yi Peng lantern festival. It's worth steering clear of March and April, when fierce heat and haze from agricultural burning — the "burning season" — settle over the region. Chiang Mai International Airport is about 3 km away, an easy transfer by shuttle or taxi.
